LGEA AGM and Right to Disconnect Workshop

On Thursday 30 November 2023 we held our AGM, which was once again a great chance to celebrate the successes of the organisation and the important work that our members have done for their communities throughout the year.

We heard from our amazing guest speakers, Dean Yates, Workplace Mental Health Expert, who shared his story and invaluable insights on managing mental health in the workplace as well as recognising the signs in others, and the Hon. Sophie Cotsis, Minister for Industrial Relations, who spoke to us about the IR reforms.

We also held an important session on the LGEA's Right to Disconnect campaign, where members discussed the way forward to ensure members have the right to disconnect from work outside their normal working hours. We have big plans for this campaign next year and look forward to working towards meaningful cultural change in local government.

We would like to thank all of those members and delegates who came along and participated in our workshops throughout the day.

Congratulations Adam!

During the AGM we announced this year’s winner of our Delegate of the Year Award - Adam Stewart from Port Stephens Council. We are delighted that Adam was announced the winner of this award as Adam has shown outstanding support for LGEA members over his years as delegate, with his pragmatic and thoughtful approach to the role.

Adam is a strong advocate for the LGEA and a well deserving winner of the Delegate of the Year Award for 2023.

LGEA/Active Super Employer of Choice Award

The winner of the 2023 LGEA/Active Super Employer of Choice Award was also announced at the AGM. This Award is now in its ninth year and is going from strength to strength as councils compete to demonstrate how they provide respect, recognition and reward to LGEA members at work. This year’s winner is Lake Macquarie City Council.

The award was presented to Sarah Chessor, Manager People & Culture, Helen Plummer, Manager Asset Management and Paige Johnson, LGEA Delegate from Lake Macquarie City Council by Chris Micallef from Active Super and LGEA Committee of Management Member, Sally Thompson.

LGEA at Work Photography Competition Winners

It's evident that members have a strong passion for their work, as we received numerous outstanding entries from various areas and regions. The quality of submissions made the judging process extremely challenging, as there were so many strong entries that demonstrated the incredible work of LGEA members.

Our winners were announced at the AGM, Matt Leibrandt from Nambucca Council, Brett McAlpin from Waverley and Sandeep Thorat from the City of Sydney.
