Dear LGEA members,
Well here we are, at the end of a year that will undoubtedly go down in the history books. We have faced drought, bushfires, floods and a global pandemic this year, and we have all well and truly earned a restful Christmas break and a less challenging new year ahead.
We thought we would celebrate the end of the year with some good news – announcing the recipients of our annual Employer of Choice and Delegate of the Year Awards.
LGEA Employer of Choice 2020
Lachlan Shire Council was announced as the LGEA Employer of Choice for 2020 during our AGM on Friday 27 November. Lachlan Shire Council’s General Manager was presented with the Award in Dubbo by LGEA Organiser Shanaz Razeen.
“For Lachlan Shire Council, being a small regional Council, to win such as prestigious award is a wonderful achievement and a credit to the Council and all my dedicated staff,” Mr Tory said.
Now in it’s sixth year, the LGEA Employer of Choice Award aims to highlight good employment practices within NSW local government, particularly those that are designed to attract and retain engineers and other professionals within council organisations. It is also designed to identify and reward local government organisations that have developed good relationships with the LGEA at the workplace level by valuing and respecting our members and providing support to our local delegates.
Lachlan Shire Council impressed the judges with their focus on addressing attraction and retention issues, the development of career paths for engineering staff and their commitment to training and development opportunities for staff.
Congratulations Lachlan Shire Council!
LGEA Delegate of the Year 2020
The LGEA Delegate of the Year for 2020 is Lance Hazell, from Wollongong City Council. The Award was also announced during our AGM on Friday 27 November, and Lance was presented with his Award by LGEA Committee of Management member Rosemary Crowhurst.
This is the second year of this new Award, which we introduced to recognise and reward the outstanding efforts of our top performing delegates.
Members from all over the state submitted nominations for their local delegate.
Lance was described by his nominating member as someone who “continuously keeps our members abreast of changes and ongoings from the LGEA ensuring that, not just our members, but also all prospective members are kept up to date with issues and other important and/or interesting information.”
Lance is a well-deserving winner. He is a long-standing and experienced delegate, who represents a large and diverse group of members at Wollongong. Lance always takes the initiative and approaches his delegate role with enthusiasm and professionalism – whether undertaking bargaining, attending Council’s consultative committee or assisting individual members.
